back up your ipod first.

right click on your ipod on the sidebar of iTunes and choose “Back Up”. then restore. then itunes should ask if you want to sync from your last backup. choose yes.

Yes. Restoring will wipe out all songs on your iPod.
If all files are still on your iTunes, that would be fine. You can sync to get those songs on your iPod again.
But if your iPod is the only place that has songs, you should backup all your iPod songs/videos before restore. Here is an easy way. That is to use this popular iPod to computer/iTunes transfer program called iPod rip http://www.gutensoft.com/Utilities/joboshare-ipod-rip.html

Many of my friends recommended it to me when I needed to backup all my songs, videos, playlists, photos podcasts etc. from my iPod back to my computer and iTunes.
With just a few simple clicks, it will help you transfer all songs/videos and other files from iPod to iTunes as well as from iPod to your selected folder on your computer.
More importantly, this won’t overwrite any original files on your iPod. And all song names and playlists are preserved.

    Hope this can help.
